Nov 21st the "Busch Pounders" are going to be tearing things up at Eagle Creek. It is up the CDA river near Murray. The Busch Pounders camp Friday to Sunday. Busch pounders are going to get a new logo for shirts, sweatshirts, beanies, and hopefully beer kozies. They are selling them to whoever wants them and profits will go towards some property so they can try and get an ORV park in north ID. The Busch Pounders would appreciate the Mountain Explorers support to get more places to play.

Oct 9th, 10th and 11th were the dates for the fall Moyie Springs mud bogs. Lots of work has been done to the pits as well as the enter/exit areas. Rex Sherman and Jeremy Cassal worked hard to make Moyie Springs more "rail friendly" and have a plan in action to clear out the exit of the speed lanes when the rails are running...making it safer for the drivers and the spectators. Click here to see an older copy of the rules. Click here to see a map to Moyie Springs. Rex Sherman built the Shriners truck which was be raffled off for runs at Moyie Springs mud bogs. Rex has a lot of time and money invested in this rig. Raffle tickets costed $1 each. All the proceeds went to the Shriners- "Big kids helping little kids." This fall $480 was raised with the Shriner truck...it could have been more but Wild Thang won the raffle....and she toasted the Shriner truck tranny! Overall, the Shriner truck made more passes through the pits than any other truck there.

Sept 26th, was the last mud race of the year (as far as I know although I heard a rumor about the 17th of October) at BIG ALS! Complete rules at the Big Als website- click here to view them.
Sept 19th was the Tina Quinlivan Memorial Team Mud Bog Races at the Moses Lake sand dunes. Here is a copy and paste of event info:Tina Quinlivan Memorial Team Mud Bog Races. Where. Moses Lake Sand Dunes, North West end of the mud flats. Follow the Sand Scorpions event signs out the gravel road starting at the west entrance to the dunes. Westlake side entrance to red zone. Out to the mud flats where we have located several different mud holes. We divide the vehicles with winches from the ones without. The vehicles with the winches become the team leaders and draw their team members from a hat with all the other entries in it. Each team has 3 members and each team lines up at a different mud hole. All of the mud holes are joined together with a trail forming a race course. The object is to get your team through your mud hole, race down the trail to the next mud hole. The team that completes the whole course 1st wins. The Mud holes are wide enough to allow for passing if the team ahead of you is stuck in the pit. Normally you will have 5 or 6 pits to complete. Last year event was very tough. www.sandscorpion.net The following is a write up about the days events from Allan Lundberg:"The Team Mud Bog Races were fun, my team was myself in the Truck Blazer, Jacob in a Chevy shortbed with 39.5" boggers, a chopped down K5 with 1-tons and Boggers, a newer solid axle converted red Chevy on Boggers, a Jeep with a small block on Boggers and a green Chevy longbed from Sprague. We won and made it through all the mud holes first and just flew through them all. One mud hole we had a couple had to get pulled out of, and the Jeep broke a front hub and rear u-joint, but Jacob just pulled him through the very last mud hole to complete the course. The mud this year wasn't as deep as last year's I heard. Last year it was so bad that no one made it through, so this year I think they were trying to make sure it wasn't so bad. Since the Truck Blazer is a pain to steer, I also took the Stepside out to play around with afterwards. They also had the Austrailian Pursuit Races where you race around and chase each other and pass someone to knock them out of the race. I just watched but afterwards took the stepside around the course a few times. It was fun with miles and miles of mud and places to go to. Theres so much mud there you could stay busy for days and never hit the same hole twice. Special thanks to the Sand Scorpions, to Larry for towing out the Truck Blazer, and to the brothers Daniel, Jacob and Zane who wheeled with us all day and showed us around, as well as Brent with a '72 K5 and thanks to Alfredo and Andrea for letting us stay Saturday night!"
Sept 19th and 20th * Saturday only: CRMRA Mud Drags and Mud Bog at Barlow Point Raceway in Longview, WA * NWSCA (NorthWest Sand Competition Association) www.nwsandcompetition.com Sand Drags at Barlow Point Raceway in Longview, WA
Sept 12th was the Sprague Mud Bogs put on by the Sprague, Wa. Fire Dept. The following is a write up about the days events from Allan Lundberg:"Well, of our groups we didnt fare too well this year. They did bring back the Street and Trail class at least. And split up the modified and x-class. Modified and street and trail were both pretty big classes, as well as stock. X-class only had 3 rigs in it. Congrats to Jessica Jack who got the fastest time of the day. Unfortunately due to some issues and a DQ, she only placed 2nd in X-class. The red S-10 (GMC Sonoma) with a 383 on 39.5" Boggers won 1st. And Kevin Zufall with the big yellow '57 Chevy got 3rd. In Modified class, Chris Schue won 1st place, another person named Alan won 2nd place (I think it was the blue V8 Powered Toyota on cut 38.5" Boggers), and I won 3rd place in the Stepside. I wasnt running too great. Seemed like my runs werent fast and even though I was running Boggers and locked front and rear it didnt launch like it normally does. Off the line on my 1st 3 runs it seemed like I sat there for an eternity, spinning tires but Slooooowly moving forward till it hooked up and took off, but still didnt seem impressive to me. Yet there was nothing wrong with the truck. I was surprised I managed a 3rd place based on how I felt my passes were. Mike was running my camo Blazer in Modified but it broke the 35 spline outer and inner Dana 60 passenger side shafts at the u-joint on it's first run. Buckwheat ran his Dodge. Joe Miller ran his Blue Chevy longbed. Mike Hefling ran the Chevy Luv, Brian Bently brought his yellow Jeep but I think he was having transmission problems? Dan Casper also was running his Dodge. In Street and Trail, the local blue nose clip Ford with an orange Bed won 1st, and I can't remember 2nd and 3rd. Jim was running my 37" Boggers, Keith was running a $400ish truck he got at an auction and it did good. Shannon ran her blue Chevy but sort of got stuck with some pretty low tread tires. Chris Black and John (JFK) were running Chris's Blazer. In Stock I cant remember who won. Buddy Lee and Tim went out and were running a rather stock 318 powered Dodge shortbed. Lori ran a guy named Rex's Ford Diesel. Brad Cragun decided to take his newer Dodge Cummins with his camper through the pit at the end. But didnt quite make it. Was good seeing others out there again, and some out at Sprague for the 1st time. The Buchanons with a big block powered Blazer and a Big Block Chevy powered Kaiser Jeep truck. Rob with his green Jeep. Dennis Durst with his 4-door Chevy shortbed. Cory with his green Ford. And everyone else. Thanks to Clay Wilken and the rest of the Sprague Fire Dept and volunteers for putting it on. Thanks to Shawna and Vince for letting some of our group crash at the house. Larry for towing out Buckwheats truck since my stepside drop hitch didnt drop enough for me to tow it, and thanks to Freddy Z for letting us use his trailer. And thanks to our other fans and the kids who were out there or were pit crew and tow people or just with us; Irene, Karlee and Kirk, Larry, Johnathan, Missy, Saydee, Kaya, Austin, Brooke, DJ, Shannon, Rochelle, Mike, BJ, Wild Thang, and everyone."

All the way up to my rail. They paid out different this year, pay 10 to play or 20 and the fastest truck (or jeep) gets the pot! Well I thought it was a good idea! July 18th was a mud race at BIG ALS! Got a sudden day off that was unexpected so I brought Herbie out to play. I did absolutely HORRIBLE! I ran ok my first run, poorly my second run and every run after that just got worse. Did not win a single run! On the brighter side, fellow mud bogger Fairfax did an excellent job on the pits and they were extremely even. Did not hear a single person all night say that the other guy got the faster lane. It has been a long time since I have seen pits this evenly matched up. Good job!

Mar. 14th and 15th was the annual "2nd weekend in March 7-Mile run." No appointments, meetings, fees, etc... just showed up, went wheeling with everyone else who showed up and had fun! Annual tradition organized by Mountain Explorers.
Jan 17th, was the POKER RUN! Here is something that Sam wrote up to describe the day: "It was a blast to say the least. We didn't have a huge turnout but it was probably for the best. Allan brought his 42 " tired stepside(thanks for pulling everyone out Allan), I drove Marvins purple chev. Randy and his son Kynyon drove their dually shop truck, Dustin brought a fourwheeler of his boss's with Tracks, Dick brought out his new fourwheeler to try it out , Duane and his sons in his Sammy, and pulling up the rear as usual was Tim with his wagoneer. We trecked up the county road to where we usually begin and that's where the fun started! Allen started by showing us how it was done by blasting threw the berm and cruising right up the mountain..... until we called him back! Next was me with "Barney with attitude". I made it about 200 ft then backed out to chain up. While I was getting chained up(thanks Marv. and Tim) the rest of the crew gave the snow a try. Basicly Dustins tracked four wheeler just rode on top, Dick's fought for everything it had but at least moved and the Sammy floated through pretty good too and as for the rest....stuck like chuck! So after getting the chains on Marvin and I gave it a shot. I hate drivin this truck.......A LOT and I have never had to work it so hard. After about 200 yards spit out a front driveline....chains on 35's just too much. So we decided to take the shortcut back down the mountain. Yeh right...we weren't going to take my rig so we all piled into Tim's chained wagoneer only to get stuck behind Randys buried dually. To his benefit he tried valiantly to get unstuck and/or out of the way but the rest of the crew ended up back at my place and back up to where we were stuck before he could get out! The whole run ran about 9 hrs and probably 10 miles! Yeh it was hard. I will always do this run. No matter how hard, how deep, how many people come or who comes. We love our area and enjoy the camraderie that comes with difficult wheeling. Thanks to all that attended and helped make it possible. Allan Lundberg (Mountain Explorers) Randy Beardsly (Lakeway Tire) and last but not least: My Wife Becky (Thomas Family Racing!) C-ya next year! Sam Thomas
Jan 4th, was the 7 Mile ORV Park Hangover Run coordinated by Mountain Explorers and Operation Sunday. Here is something that Allan wrote up to describe the day: "Matty and Little Leesa were already at the Park. For once, I was ready on time and had the Stepside ready to go. We also were going to take the plow truck with as well, in case the 7-Mile Parking lot needed plowed again. I was waiting for Lori and the Kids, Shawna, Vince, and Russ to get to my house. Russ was going to drive the plow truck. I had the plow ready to go warmed up and waiting when they got there. As soon as we went to leave, the plow quit working. So we left the plow truck behind and Russ drove his Scout instead. Driving the Stepside on Boggers with lockers on ice was interesting on the roads out there. We got there and the parking ot was locked. The entry way was half filled with parked and stuck vehicles. People there included John Fulton, Wayne Hartwig, Mike, Mark, Les, Jimmy, Chad H., Mark Young, Jesse Young, Rochelle, Kelly Sego, and a handful of others including us that showed up and Matty and Heidi and the girls, and Little Leesa. I was immediately informed by, about everyone, that everyone was getting stuck. Matty had been stuck already in his stockish K5, Wayne H. had been stuck, John Fulton had been stuck and nearly everyone else. Russ got stuck trying to pull to the side of the entryway. I went ahead and decided to see how far I could get. I started trying to blaze a new trail to the south. I had to just keep going back and forth only making an extra 5-10 feet each time. It was fairly heavy snow but not anything that was easily packed down and driven on. If you weighed anything, you sunk. Crawling was no possibility for me. But I tried medium throttle and kept going back and forth. Finally got so far and no one was really behind me so I started to go back. Rochelle had followed a ways in her truck but was stuck, and Jimmy in a ramcharger was helping pull her out. Jeremiah showed up also, and once the parking lot was open and the traffic jam by the gate was cleared, those rigs which didn't give up and leave, started to venture out with little air pressure in tires (except me at full air pressure). Most of the lighter rigs went down over the hill to the west. I saw John F. to the south so followed him for a bit. He, Jeremiah and I then came back to the main top area and Jeremiah and I dropped down the hill. Down below, and where the sun had been hitting the snow, the lighter trucks had started to stay on top and packed down the snow. I was thinking now I can gear down and crawl and try and stay on top. Nope. Even low range low gear and no throttle, with every 1/10th turn of the bogger they just dug in, causing my axles to high center on the half packed snow everyone else was staying on to of packing down. I still didnt get stuck but wasnt going anywhere fast. Then I started to overheat, which we found my clutch fan was shot and not pulling air through the radiator. So I had to stop and let it cool down several times. I decided to head back up the hill. Jeremiah went up the way we came, but his motor was cutting out and backfiring running bad. Mark Young helped winch him up the rest of the way. Then I tried... 1st crawling, then medium throttle, then near full throttle, and wasn't getting very far. But it started to tear up the hill and make it rough, so I pulled to the side and let the other Mark go up. he made it further, but Mark Young helped winch him up the rest of the way. Then Kelly Sego tried and made it about 3/4 of the way up before being winched. During this time I was trying to blaze a new trail in untouched snow up another hill no one had been up. I was making it further up the new hill than I was on the hill others were going up. But I had to keep letting the motor cool off. Finally decided to just try the main hill again. Kept trying determined to make it till my fan cut my alternator belt off in turn throwing my PS belt. Jeremiah had a spare, put the belts on, tried one last time and John F. winched me up the rest of the way. We were then done for the day and I drove home trying to save my radiator (which in turn was demolished a few days later when I went to move the truck at home just before I was to replace the fan). Mike (rangermike) with the Suzuki Samurai buggy probably did the best as for getting around, as well as the black Toyota on Iroks, Marks Toyota/buggy, and Mark Young's Blazer did good too. So did the two Landcruisers that were there from Idaho. The consensus of the day: The snow was deep and it was a Stuckfest"
PAST EVENTS 2008
Nov 23rd was the 7 Mile ORV Park appreciation run.
7 Mile ORV park will be staying OPEN this winter, with the exception of being closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Thanks to all those who showed support for this including Jeff Williams, Allan Lundberg, John Fulton, Paul Y. and anyone else who has contributed to this. Also thanks to the "powers that be" for listening to our concerns.
Oct 18th was Big Al's final race of the season. Pretty good turn out, pretty even lanes, pretty good time! Sunday was their playday and about 8 rigs or so showed up for that and tossed mud towards the sky for about 8 hours!
The weekend of Oct 4th &5th was the fall Moyie Mud Bogs! This was the mud bog for drivers...although partying did happen! Great weekend and photos will be online soon. Kind of a small crowd... we need to make up for that next spring so Bruce's wallet can recover!
Oct 4th was Big Al's again doing side by side mud races at Stateline Idaho. $40 entry fee which includes one pit pass. Tech in is from 1:00pm to 3:00pm and racing starts around 3:30 or 4:00pm
Sept 27th was the Mud Bog for Dogs put on by the Spokane Humane Society. It was held on site at Francis and Havana street. $40 entry fee that includes 1 pit pass, proceeds go towards fund raising for the shelter. Tech in 9:00am to noon, racing starts at 1:00pm.
Sept 20th was Big Al's doing side by side mud races at Stateline Idaho. Allan's experience and words: "It was a good night for me, I won $70 and 1st place in Modified class but it was also nothing to brag about cause there was only two other entries in Modified, and one vehicle (Both father and Son Wilcox in the grey Toyota). Jack Laude blew his motor (rod through oil pan). Jessica Jack and Jim Smith were running good! And fast, but there was a rig from ?? that Id never seen before really lightweight with a big block Ford motor that blew everyone away in Open class. He got 1st, I think Jim Smith was 2nd and Jessica was 3rd I think. In Super Modified, I can't remember the placings but I know that Brad Cassell was running good and fast and so was Steve Murfin's S-10 Blazer driven by his 16 year old son Joey Murfin. He drives just like his Dad! James Smith Jr was also running good in the Luv, but again I cant remember who placed what. But I'm happy cause I washed off the Stepside, it drove home just as nice as can be on the road (besides the typical rock between wheel/caliper noises) and it still has good oil pressure. Maybe I should stop mud racing it now and keep it for trail duty till I get some more trucks of "the Fleet" up and going!"
Sept 20 &21 were Mud Drags in Dundurn Saskatchewan. Tech in 10:00am, gates open at 11:00am. $5000 in prize money, $1000 goes to the fastest pass. For more info call 306-281-5248. Click here to see the flier.

Go to their website for more info on fees, classes, etc. For more information contact Craig Sines at (503) 886-4146 or email. UPDATE 1:Their website has changed to www.columbiarivermud.org and there is now a MySpace link of www.myspace.com/crmra. UPDATE 2: Due to circumstances beyond control, all Barlow Point Raceway races will be Saturday only for the 2008 season.
Sept 13th was the Mud Bog for Dogs put on by the Spokane Humane Society. It was held on site at Francis and Havana street. $40 entry fee that included 1 pit pass, proceeds went towards fund raising for the shelter. Tech in 9:00am to noon, racing started at 1:00pm.
Karen's words: The dog pound race was a blast! The pits were pretty equal and not rocky at all. Jim Smith beat us all, Sam was second and we were 3rd in open class. We just needed more zip! There was a new grave digger look alike on the scene called The Punisher, that was said to have 1100 hp and was blown alcohol but it was still in the fine tuning stage and didn't get a full pass- it was cutting out for some reason. Chris was there with his blue Ford and it ran really well with a 15 year old in the driver seat. Amanda tipped over her Pick & Pull truck in the pit- she got up on the wall and couldn't quite save it. There was the black & orange blazer that did really great in the Super mod class. There was some great racing in the smaller classes as well- Byron did great too! There was an awesome turn out! Lots of racers and spectators! The pay-outs were good too along with some nice trophies.
Sept 13th Eureka Dune Runners had their annual Mud Bog, Sand Drag, Pig Roast Saturday. It is at 2579 Airport Road in Eureka. Gate opens at 10am. Admission is $10.00 FOR ADULTS $5.00 for kids ages 6-10 and kids 5 and under are free and that includes your meal. Questions? Call Steve at 406-889-5360 or Dave at 406-889-3010
Sept 13th was the Sprague Mud Bogs. $20 per driver and vehicle, 5 classes, 4 and 6, stock V8, Street and Trail, Modified and X-class, with 1-3 place trophies based on the average time of your best two times out of 4 runs. Starts with 4 and 6 and goes up to X, and then everyone switches lanes and goes again till everyone has 4 runs. Tech in usually is between 8am and 9, and they usually are good about starting fairly early around 10am. Spectators I "think" are 5 bucks. With the 20 for racing you get 1 pit person. Theres also sometimes a fastest time of the day trophy overall. (Allan and I will compete to see which one of us doesn't get this one by the largest margin)

August 9th, Sam Thomas organized a mud race in Orient WA. Single lane 120 foot long deep deep DEEP pit that was only traversed on the first wave of trucks by Jack Laude... who also whooped everyone else and took first place. Only about 11 trucks showed up...but it was all good as everyone who showed up knew everyone else and it was a fun friendly thing. Thanks to all for going including Jack Laude, his son Tim, Keith Brown, Allan Lundberg, Richard and Carlee, Dustin, Leon and Carrie Russel, Marvin and his wife, Byron, and I think I left a name or two out who I am pulling a momentary lapse of memory on. (imagine that) Oh yeah, I showed with "Herbie on Steroids" as well. Not a single truck showed up for 4&6, stock V8 or street&trail. We had two trucks with 3 drivers for hot street, so Sam at the last minute decided to break up the modified class into two random categories... small block and big block... so that he could give out 6 trophies to us all instead of 3. I thought that was pretty cool! Thanks again Sam for a really fun event... pound for pound I think I had as much fun as I do at Moyie!
